Servicing

Most oil fired space heaters should be serviced at least once a year to ensure that they remain safe, produce maximum power and burn at maximum efficiency - as well as keeping your warranty in check. National Heater Shops do not offer site engineer visits for servicing - but worry not! We can provide service kits for Master and Arcotherm oil fired space heaters that allow you to service the heater yourself, at your convenience - saving you ££££s on expensive engineer visits. It is simply a case of cleaning certain parts and replacing certain parts.
Servicing

Reasons to get your heater serviced:

  1. Over time your space heater’s combustion chamber can develop a layer of soot, due to smoke and partially burnt fuel deposits. This layer of soot restricts affects how cleanly the heater burns and reduces the heater’s efficiency. The cleaner the heater burns, the more efficiently the heater will run.

  2. The oil nozzles within diesel space heaters regulate how much oil passes through the burner. These nozzles wear over time, causing too much fuel to pass through the burner and a layer of soot to build up in the combustion chamber. This then affects combustion and reduces the heater’s efficiency. The oil nozzles should therefore be replaced during a service to keep the heater burning efficiently.

  3. Photocells are an important safety feature which detect whether the burner is alight. These photocells can become dirty with deposits over time. A dirty photocell may not be able to detect the burner flame correctly and could cause the heater to shut down at random intervals. Therefore it is important that the photocell is cleaned during a service.

  4. Many space heaters have electrodes which produce a spark to light the fuel. Over time, electrodes can wear and attract soot deposits. In poor condition, these electrodes may fail to light the burner. These electrodes can be cleaned or replaced during a service.

  5. The heater’s fuel filters can become blocked with contaminants from the fuel. This can restrict fuel delivery and cause the burner to run erratically or inefficiently, or even fail to light. New fuel filters should be fitted as part of a service.

  6. The seals on the space heater’s fuel filter can harden with age and lose their flexibility. This can lead to leaks so it is important to get these seals changed.
