What is a cabinet heater?

A cabinet heater is a floor-standing warm air heater. It is a large metal enclosure, featuring a stainless steel combustion chamber, heat exchanger and internal fan. These heaters offer large volumes of clean warm air, to heat large industrial spaces safely and effectively. They a require a flue to be set up through a roof or external wall, to vent exhaust fumes outside.

How does a cabinet heater work?

Cabinet space heaters burn their fuel in a combustion chamber, which in turn heats a heat exchanger. The internal fan draws air into the unit and passes it over the heat exchanger, where it is heated. Warm air is blown out the front of the unit and exhaust fumes are vented outside via a flue. This ensures that only clean warm air is circulated in the space.

They can be used in a wide range of spaces, including halls, venues, industrial units, workshops, warehouses and factories. Fuel Options

• Oil Fired Cabinet Heaters – These units can be fuelled using diesel, red diesel or kerosene. They are available in a wide range of sizes, from the 18kW Arcotherm Vertigo, to the 300kW Powrmatic CPx300. Smaller units usually have their own internal fuel tank, whilst larger units need an external fuel tank. The wide range of sizes offers a solution for small workshops as well as large factories and warehouses.

• Gas Cabinet Heaters – Gas fired cabinet heaters offer a more industrial solution, for demanding applications. Top brands including Reznor and Powrmatic produce these heaters, for installation in large industrial buildings. Both LPG (Propane) and natural gas fired units are available.

• Multi Fuel Heaters – Also known as 'waste oil heaters' or 'universal oil heaters'. These units can be fuelled using biofuels, such as rapeseed oil and certain vegetable oils, waste oil and diesel. They are easy to ignite and offer a great solution for garage workshops and other similar spaces. The Thermobile Bio Energy 1 offers a compact and slim profile, 27kW heat output an airflow of 1000m³/hr.
