How Do Compressor Dehumidifiers Work?
A compressor dehumidifier works by using a series of refrigerated and heated coils to reduce the moisture within a space. Fans draw humid air into the machine through a vents and pass it over a refrigerated coil, which is called the evaporator. The moisture in the air condenses when it meets the cold surface, and this condensate drips into a collection tank or is pumped away via a drainage system. The newly dried air is then slightly warmed by a heated element or a second coil called the condenser. This new air is then returned back into circulation.

Compressor dehumidifiers are considered more energy efficient than desiccant dehumidifiers, due to the processes used to remove moisture. Whilst desiccant dehumidifiers rely on a rotor system, compressor dehumidifiers use a series of heated and cooled coils to pull condensation from the air. The only drawback of these dehumidifiers is that they cannot operate in freezing temperatures, and instead work best in temperatures of 10°C-30°C.

Refrigerant dehumidifiers are designed for efficiency. Whilst desiccant dehumidifiers are designed for operation in low temperatures, refrigerant dehumidifiers operate at warmer temperatures for a fraction of the energy that a desiccant unit requires.

What is the difference between a compressor dehumidifier and a refrigerant dehumidifier?
There is no difference between refrigerant and compressor dehumidifiers - both of these terms are used interchangeably. These units are referred to as such because they are both components that are used in the unit’s dehumidification processes.
Are compressor dehumidifiers suitable for cold environments?
These dehumidifiers are less effective in temperatures below 10-15°C than desiccant dehumidifiers. They are, however, more energy efficient than desiccant units and operate effectively in warmer temperatures.

Do I need professional installation?
Most compressor dehumidifiers we have available are plug-and-play, meaning that they require minimal setup and installation. However, many large fixed systems benefit from continuous drainage, or professional installation if integrated into preexisting HVAC systems.
