These areas involve the handling or use of specific volatile flammable liquids or gases in sealed containers or systems.
The Friedrich Hazardgard SH20N50AT Hazardous Location Air Conditioner is a powerful air conditioner that has been certified by ATEX for use in explosive gas atmospheres (Gas Group IIC). It is designed with safety in mind and is suitable for use in Zone 2. With a cooling capacity of 5.7kW and a maximum airflow of 722m³/hr, this Hazardgard air conditioner provides a substantial amount of cooling power, making it ideal for challenging and potentially explosive environments where temperatures can reach extreme levels.

The SH20N50AT air conditioner is equipped with a powder-coated 22-gauge, G60 steel cabinet and Diamonblue coated coils to enhance its resistance against corrosion. This protective coating for the cabinet can withstand years of heavy-duty use in highly challenging environments. The Diamonblue Advanced Corrosion Protection, on the other hand, exhibits excellent adhesion properties, minimal thermal degradation and exceptional chemical resistance. These features ensure that the air conditioner remains durable and delivers reliable performance even in the most demanding conditions.
The unit offers exceptional durability and reliability. It features various enclosures that provide additional protection. The Friedrich air conditioner includes a commercial-grade enclosed fan motor with a hermetically sealed overload feature, ensuring arc-free operation. It also has a steel enclosure for solid-state relays responsible for controlling the compressor and fan operation. Moreover, there is a sealed control enclosure for the thermostat and on-off control, enhancing resistance to corrosion.
The Hazardgard air conditioner is designed to be hermetically and environmentally sealed. It features a reciprocating compressor that is tightly sealed, making it suitable for operation in challenging environments with extreme temperatures and high humidity levels. The hermetically sealed compressor effectively prevents refrigerant leakage and safeguards the system from external contaminants. The unit also includes an environmentally sealed power switch and thermostat with gold plated contacts, offering another layer of excellent corrosion resistance.
Alongside the steel cabinet, the Friedrich air con features a fan shaft made of stainless steel that contributes to a durable steel build. It is equipped with industrial electrical cable harnesses and cable glands, specifically designed for rugged usage. The unit comes with a permanent split capacitor motor for reliable performance. It is directly wired to a 15-amp circuit with a time-delay fuse, allowing it to handle current surges without tripping the breaker.
The air conditioner is designed to function effectively in a wide range of temperatures, spanning from 7°C to 55°C, allowing it to be suitable for various environments and climates. It incorporates a hot gas bypass feature, enabling cooling operation even in low ambient temperatures as low as 7ºC without the risk of freezing. With a T4 temperature rating, the surface temperatures of the unit will not exceed 135°C, which is significantly below the auto-ignition temperature of most materials, ensuring enhanced safety and preventing potential hazards.
The 8-Way air direction control of the air conditioner enables optimal airflow and even distribution of temperature throughout any room. With intuitive dial control and a user-friendly interface, the unit offers straightforward operation and convenient adjustments.
