Worcester Bosch Single-Phase Electric Back-Up Heater
The Worcester Bosch Electric Back-Up Heater has been developed as a back-up electric heater to be included with their air-to-water heat pumps to provide supplementary heating for compatible units. This heater connects to the system and can be used to provide homeowners with an instantaneous and plentiful supply of hot water, even if there is unusually high demand. It also provides homeowners with a backup plan in the unlikely event a repair needs to be made to the heat pump system itself.
Features and Benefits: Worcester Bosch Back-Up Heater
Selectable Output: When installing, you can choose from stepped output settings of 2kW, 4kW or 6kW to match your home's heat-loss calculation and how much electric supply your system can physically handle.
Support for the Winter: When temperatures drop, this auxiliary heater provides the additional support needed once the heat pump begins to struggle with particularly low outdoor temperatures.
Electrical Compatibility: Dual single-phase 230V AC (50Hz) or three-phase 400V + N (50Hz) mains power connections.
System Linking: Compatible with the hydraulic units, wall control units, and for Worcester Bosch indoor units so you can stay in control of your heating system, regardless of the conditions outside.
Safety: Fitted with factory thermal cut-outs that help to prevent the system from overheating or from damaging circuit overloads.
Compact Enclosure: Measures just 320mm (H) × 210mm (W) × 610mm (L), making this additional unit an ideal choice for fitting into tight cupboards or utility areas.
Lightweight: The unit weighs only 9.5kg, allowing an easy wall installation by a single heating engineer and reducing time spent on the job.
Genuine Accessory: It is built exactly for this use and is covered by the manufacturer's warranty of 2-years.
Jumper Setup & Electrical Sizing
The internal PCB comes set as the 6kW output by default. If the electrical supply dictates this needs to be changed, then you have to link the internal DIP switches / jumpers on the main terminal board before supplying power to the heater as described below:
2kW Output: Selected by Jumper Position 1, it requires 16A MCB (Type B or C) on a minimum 2.5mm² cable.
4kW Output: Selected by Jumper Position 2. This setup requires 20A to 25A MCB with minimum 4.00mm² cabling.
6kW Output: This is the default position and you should use a 32A MCB and at least 6.0mm² twin and earth cabling.
Vertically install the heater in line with the primary flow and after the connection to the outdoor heat pump monobloc and before the 3-way diverter valve. If an air vent is not present on the connection to the heater, an automatic air vent (AAV) should be installed at the highest point of the connections to the heater. Any air that is trapped around the dry heating elements can cause it to trip during setup.
