Dehumidifiers

What is a dehumidifier and why do I need one?

National Heater Shops has a wide choice when it comes to dehumidifiers for sale from some of the most trusted brands, including Woods, Ebac, Calorex, Aerial, Master, Fral, Thermobile, Dantherm, Broughton, Dri-Eaz and Ecor Pro.

What is a dehumidifier? Well, first of all there are two main types of dehumidifiers - refrigerant and desiccant. Both have the same goal - removing moisture from the air to prevent a build-up of excess humidity, which can lead to problems with condensation, mould and damp.

But the real difference between refrigerant and desiccant dehumidifiers is exactly how each type removes the excess moisture. Refrigerant dehumidifiers, which are also known as compressor dehumidifiers or condensation dehumidifiers, are the most common and well-known types of dehumidifiers.

They use a set of refrigerated coils to extract moisture from the air via condensation. They are cheap to run and suited to drying a wide range of spaces. Refrigerant dehumidifiers work best in temperatures above 15-degrees, but some high-quality models work effectively as low as 5-degrees.

Below that temperature level, a desiccant dehumidifier is best. These types of dehumidifiers extract moisture from the air using an absorbent material on a rotary wheel. Desiccant dehumidifiers are extremely effective in colder conditions - even well below freezing. So, they are ideal for more challenging areas and harsher conditions.

Why use a dehumidifier? Generally, they are ideal for drying out a room following a leak, flood or for construction and decorating work. Dehumidifiers are also great for preserving sensitive materials and equipment that could be damaged by high humidity levels.

Any industry that needs to dry out materials during the manufacturing process or in food and drink production will usually involve a dehumidification system. There are also many individual, specific and niche applications that require a dehumidifier - plus there are plenty of model to choose from for each application.
